The Margin You Didn't Know You Were Losing
Revenue is the number everyone watches. Margin is the number that actually tells you if the business is healthy — and it's the one most owners can explain the least.
I've asked plenty of founders "what's your average margin by job type?" and gotten a shrug, or a number that turned out to be a guess once we actually pulled the data.
That's not a knock on anyone. Nobody sets out to lose track of margin — it just happens quietly, job by job, quote by quote, until "we're busier than ever" and "we're not actually making more money" show up in the same sentence.
If you had to guess your margin by product line or job type right now, off the top of your head — how confident are you in that number?
